Who Can Perform Umrah?
Any person can perform Umrah if he can meet certain conditions;
where Islam has set conditions for the validity and obligation of performing Umrah for a Muslim, and the conditions are:
Islam
It is a condition for performing all acts of worship, as a non-Muslim is not addressed in the speech of worship, and no act of worship is valid from him.
Puberty
It is required for the validity and obligation of Umrah that the person is in charge; That is, a sane adult, and the mind is a condition for the validity of the Umrah.
The insane person is not qualified to worship, and likewise, anyone before puberty is not qualified for Umrah, but if he performs Umrah, then his Umrah is valid;
Moreover, Puberty is a condition for the obligation to perform Umrah
Freedom
The person should be free; It is a condition for the obligation of Umrah, as it is not obligatory for the male and female slave,
but if they perform Umrah, then their Umrah is valid, and it is waived from them.
Ability
Umrah is not obligatory for those who cannot afford it, in other words, the ability includes:
- A person should be physically capable, and not suffer from diseases that prevent him from performing Umrah.
- The person is financially capable to perform Umrah and has enough money to go and return to Mecca.
- The person can secure himself and his money from the evils of the road while going for Umrah.
Umrah Conditions for Women
There are other conditions for Umrah, but they are specific to women only, and they are:
Firstly, The presence of a Mahram
A woman’s Umrah is not valid except with her husband or one of her male relatives.
And a woman who does not have a mahram is not obligated to perform Umrah, and according to the Shafi’is and Malikis, it is correct for her to perform it with a group of trustworthy women if she insures herself with them.
Note that the condition of Mahram according to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has been abolished since 2022
Secondly, Not to be in the Iddah period
This is because women while the Iddah period are forbidden from going out and traveling.
and Iddah in Isalm is a specified waiting period for a woman following the death of her husband, or divorce;
As the widow or divorcee will endure a specific period of time to grieve and process the end of the relationship and the change in her life.
Who Can Perform Umrah? | Rules Of Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has put in place some laws to ensure the safety of pilgrims on Umrah 2023, for example:
- The age of the pilgrim must range from 18 to 50 years if he is from outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and from 18 to 70 if he is from inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
- The pilgrim must have made a pre-booking for the Umrah.
- Round-trip flight confirmation.
- Obtaining a confirmed Umrah visa from the Consulate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
