After completing the rituals of Umrah, you must go to visit Medinah, and there you do not have to wear the Ihram clothes, but What to wear in Medinah?

 

Weather in Medinah

Before we talk about what to wear in Medinah we will talk about the weather in Medinah, So you could know what to pack with you before traveling. 

In general, Medinah has dry and hot weather in summer, and mild in winter, as follows:

  • Summer: During the summer, the weather is very hot, and temperatures may reach 45 degrees Celsius.

  • Autumn: In autumn, the weather is also hot, but the temperature during the day does not rise above 30 degrees Celsius, and in the evening it reaches 15 degrees Celsius.
  • Winter: The temperatures are moderate with a little cool breeze at night, and it is considered the best season to visit Medinah.
  • Spring: During the spring, the weather is hot but pleasant during the day, and in the evening temperatures may drop to 15 degrees Celsius.

 

What to Wear in Medinah?

When you go to visit Medinah, you must adhere to dress in accordance with Islamic law; to show respect for the culture and sanctity of the place.

The traditional clothing in Medinah for men is to wear a long gown (Thobe) and a head covering (Shemagh); to protect from the intense desert heat and sand storms.

You can also wear any non-revealing clothing, for example:

  • Shirts with long or short sleeves.
  • Pants, better to be tall pants.
  • Shoes or sandals.

Make sure the fabrics are cotton and breathable; to absorb sweat, and so as not to feel the heat so much.

 

What to Wear in Medinah as a Foreign Woman? 

As a foreign woman, the dress code in your Medinah may be slightly different; because the dress code for women in Medinah is conservative.

Although, since 2019, foreign women are no longer required to wear the abaya or Hijab, it is better to wear conservation clothing.

In other words, Miniskirts, shorts, tight pants, or revealing shirts are not recommended. 

This will give off a negative impression, and will also attract disapproval and negative looks.

Here are some ideas of what to wear on Medinah:

  • Loose clothing that covers the shoulders, chest, and legs.
  • Wear opaque fabrics that do not reveal skin color.
  • You can wear a kimono instead of an abaya.
  • It’s okay to wear jeans, however, they should not be so tight.
  • Long light dresses that cover the chest and shoulders.

In addition, anytime you go to visit a mosque, you must wear an abaya and headscarf (Hijab) to cover your head.

 

What to Pack Before Going to Medinah?

Firstly, Clothing: 

  • Pack loose-fitting long pants or long skirts.
  • Long sleeve shirts.
  • Underwear.
  • Sneakers and sandals.
  • A light jacket for cooler evenings.
  • A headscarf or Hijab for women.
  • Swimming suit, if you are going to visit the beaches

Secondly, Essentials:

  • Sunscreen.
  • Hand, face, and lip moisturizer.
  • Nasal drops; because it is very dry in Medina.
  • A dust mask in case of any sand storms.
  • A convenient backpack so you can carry all your essentials.

  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, toothpick, or floss.
  • Deodorant.
  • Avoid carrying any alcohol or pornography, radio transmitters, religious statues, and sculptures; because it is banned in Saudi Arabia.
