  • Spring: The weather is relatively warm with high temperatures and humidity, but temperatures may reach 44.5 degrees Celsius, and it is crowded with tourists in the spring.
  • Summer: During the summer, the temperatures are so high that they cannot be tolerated during the day, and during this season the tourist is idle.
  • Autumn: During the fall, the temperatures begin to drop to 35.1 degrees Celsius, but the humidity is also high, and the climate is not stable.
  • Winter: It is considered the best time to visit Mecca and the busiest season in terms of tourism, Where the weather is pleasant and temperatures drop to 30.4 degrees Celsius, with the possibility of a little rain.

What to Wear in Mecca?

While you are in Mecca you will wear two types of clothing; Ihram clothing or regular clothing.

Firstly, Ihram Clothing

It is the clothes that men and women wear when entering the state of Ihram to perform Hajj or Umrah

Ihram clothing should follow some rules, for example:

  • Men are required to wear the Ihram clothing, which consists of two pieces of unstitched white cloth.
  • The upper piece of men’s Ihram clothing is draped over the shoulders and upper body, while the lower piece is draped around the waist, leaving the right shoulder exposed.
  • Women are required to wear loose-fitting clothing that covers the entire body, and a Hijab to cover the head.
  • Moreover, men should not wear covered shoes or stockings, but rather the ankle, heel, and toe should not be covered.

  • Also, men are advised to wear slippers or flat-soled sandals.
  • As for women, they must wear closed socks or shoes that cover the entire foot.

 

Secondly, Regular Clothing

After completing the Umrah, you do not have to remain in the Ihram clothes, you can wear normal clothes,

But you must dress conservatively; To show respect for the culture and sanctity of Mecca, For example:

  • Muslim men usually wear Western clothing or traditional clothing from their home countries.
  • Muslim women wear long, loose clothing and cover their hair with a Hijab.
  • Pants for men can be worn comfortably, provided they are not too tight or short above the knee.

  • Pants for women should be long, loose, and non-revealing.
  • You can wear shirts and blouses, but for women, it must be that they are long, in addition to covering the shoulders and chest.
  • All clothing for women and men in Mecca must be body-covering and opaque.

Note that the traditional clothing for men in Mecca is a long white dress (Thobe) and a headscarf (Shemagh), while women wear an Abaya and Hijab.

 

What to Wear in Mecca as a Foreign Woman?

Since 2019 Hijab and Abaya are no longer obligatory for foreign women to wear in Mecca, but it is nevertheless obligatory to wear them in any mosque or holy place, On the other hand, 

It is preferable for foreign women to adhere to modest dress, for example:

  • Wearing long and loose dresses, and covering shoulders and chest.
  • Ensure that the clothes are loose and not sticking to the body.
  • Opaque or revealing skin color.
  • Long skirts that cover the full leg.

When you go to Mecca to perform the Umrah, you must adhere to the Ihram clothes during the Umrah.

However, at other times, you can wear any conservative clothing that respects the sanctity of the place and the culture of its inhabitants.
