Visit The Companions Graves

Visit The Companions Graves at least once in your life, and feel the greatness of the Companions, bearing in mind that most of the graves of the Companions are located in Medinah near Al Masjid Al Nabawi.

 

The Ruling of Visit The Companions graves 

Visiting the graves of the Companions is a Sunnah on the authority of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), 

intending to pray for them and remember the Hereafter, provided that the purpose of the visit is the same as visiting the grave of any other person.

But visiting the graves of the Companions to seek their help or help from them is forbidden (Haram) in Islam.

Seeking the help of companions other than Allah is considered polytheism or blasphemy.

Among the prohibited behaviors when visiting the graves of the Companions:

  • Sweeping and blessing, and seeking help from graves or companions.
  • Slaughter to the Companions or make a vow to them.
  • Tawaf or prayer around the graves of the Companions.
  • Requesting needs from the dead, such as intercession, supplication, or meeting needs.

 

Why Visit The Companions Graves?

You should visit the graves of the Companions for many reasons, for example:

Firstly, Because it is Sunnah

As a result, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:

“Visit graves, for they remind you of the Hereafter.” [Reported by Muslim]

لقول النبي ﷺ:

“زوروا القبور فإنها تذكركم الآخرة” [أخرجه مسلم]

And the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), peace be upon him, used to teach his companions when they visited graves to say:

“Assalamu Alaikum people of this abode from among the believers and Muslims, and we, inshallah (God willing), will join you, We ask Allah for wellness for you and for us.”

[Narrated by Muslim]

 وكان النبي ﷺ يعلم أصحابه إذا زاروا القبور أن يقولوا:

” السلام عليكم أهل الديار من المؤمنين والمسلمين وإنا إن شاء الله بكم لاحقون، نسأل الله لنا ولكم العافية” [أخرجه مسلم]

Secondly, Pray for the Companions:

You must visit the graves of the Companions out of kindness to them, and to pray for the Companions for forgiveness and mercy from Allah.

In addition,

You will earn a reward from Allah for visiting the graves and performing one of the Sunnahs of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

 

Finally, the Lesson and Admonition

When you visit the graves, you must remember the Hereafter, and the reckoning, which should bring you closer to Allah, and increase your worship and condemnation.

 

Where to Visit The Companions Graves

Most people believe that the graves of all the Companions are in Medinah, but there is more than one grave of the Companions that you can visit, for example:

Al-Baqi Cemetery

Al-Baqi Cemetery is located east of Al Masjid Al Nabawi in Medinah, and it is the largest and most famous tomb of the Companions.

Where more than ten thousand companions were buried there, including:

  • Othman bin Affan.
  • Abu Bakr.
  • Omar bin al-Khattab.
  • Ali bin Abi Talib.
  • Saad bin Abi Waqas.
  • Abdul Rahman bin Auf.
  • Ali bin Al-Hussein.
  • Muhammad Al-Baqir 
  • Jafar Al-Sadiq.
  • The wives of the Prophet (pbuh) except Khadija and Maymouna.
  • Fatima Al-Zahra.
  • The son of the Prophet (pbuh) Ibrahim, and his uncle Al-Abbas.

 

Bahnasa (Baqi Egypt)

In an area in Upper Egypt called Al-Bahnasa in the west of the Bani Mazar region, in which approximately 700 of the Companions were buried, for example:

  • Ubadah bin Al-Samit.
  • Muhammad bin Abi Dhar Al-Ghafari.
  • Ziyad bin Abi Sufyan.

Moreover, in Egypt, in the Mokattam Mountains in Cairo, the companions Amr ibn al-Aas, al-Laith ibn Saad, Uqba ibn Amer, and other companions.

 

Syria

In Syria, there are graves of the Companions, including:

  • Grave of Khaled bin Al-Walid in Homs.
  • Graves of Ubayy bin Ka’b, Bilal bin Rabah, Zayd bin Thabit, and others in Cairo.

 

Jordan

You can go to visit Jordan and visit the graves of some of the Companions, including:

  • The Grave of the companion Abi Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah in the Ghor region.
  • Amer bin Abi Waqqas was buried in northwest Jordan in Ghor.
  • The graves of Muadh bin Jabal and his son Abdul Rahman bin Muadh bin Jabal in the northern region of Ghor in Jordan.

 

In conclusion, 

Visit the graves of the Companions to pray for them and remind oneself of the Hereafter, and not for any other purpose.
