Why it is called Jabal Ohod? 

Ohod in the Arabic language means uniting or uniqueness of something, There are different opinions about the reason for naming it Jabal Ohod:

  • First opinion: is because it is surrounded by valleys and plains.
  • Second opinion: one of the first residents of the city was a man called Ohod since someone moved to the mountain and resided in it, it was named after him.
  • Third opinion: moreover it symbolizes the unity of Allah.

Jabal Ohod witnessed several events after the advent of Islam, which gave it a great religious status, such as:

Battle of Uhud

It is the site of the Battle of Ohod between Muslims and Quraish, which took place during the third year of Hijra.

Where the battle took place in the southwest of the mountain near the Mount of Archers. Seventy Muslims were killed in that battle.

Muslims see that Jabal Ohod is one of the mountains of Paradise when Abu Abbas bin Jabr Al-Sahabi narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) said: “The mountain of Ohod loves us and we love it, and it is one of the mountains of Jannah.”
