The Religious Status Of Ghar Thowr
Ghar Thowr mentioned in the Quran in surah at-Tawbah verse (40):
In case ever you do not vindicate him, (The prophet) yet Allah readily vindicated him, as the ones who disbelieved drove him out the second of two, as the two were in the cavern, as he said to his companion, “Grieve not; surely Allah is with us.
“Then Allah sent down His serenity on him and aided him with hosts you did not see, and He made the word of the ones who disbelieved the basest; and the Word of Allah is that (which) is The Uppermost; and Allah is Ever-Mighty, Ever-Wise..(40)
The above verse, makes Ghar Thowr a great religious status among Muslims; Where it is also the cave that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq sheltered while they were on their way to Medinah on the journey of the Prophet’s migration.
So they entered it until Quraish stop searching for them, and then they continued their way.
While they were in the cave, Quraysh came looking for them, until they stood at the front of the cave, but Allah returned them with His grace and power.
This is what gives Ghar Thawr a sacred status for Muslims, and makes it a religious tourist destination for many Muslims around the world.
Why Was It Called Ghar Thowr?
The mountain in which the cave is located is called Jabal Thawr, and the cave was named after the mountain.
Although some say that it was named after a person who lived in it, his name was Thowr bin Abd Manat.
