Umrah Badal

The Umrah Badal is when someone is performing Umrah on behalf of another person. 

 

Umrah Badal 

Many Muslims perform Umrah on behalf of their parents; The dead and the living, the rituals of Umrah are performed on behalf of others by following 

all the rituals of Ihram and Umrah on behalf of oneself, with one simple difference; It is intention and Talbiyah.

 

Umrah Badal Ruling 

It is permissible to perform an Umrah instead of someone else because of a chronic illness from which there is no hope of recovery, or because of old age or death.

It is permissible to perform according to four Islamic schools, the Umrah can be performed as many times as possible.

and that’s for Hadith:

Laqit bin `Amir reported: I came to the Prophet (pbuh) and said:

 “My father is a very old man and does not have the strength to perform Hajj (pilgrimage) or `Umrah or to undertake the journey.” the prophet (pbuh) said, 

“Perform Hajj and `Umrah on behalf of your father” [Abu Dawood and  Al- Tirmidhi]

عن لقيط بن عامر رضي الله عنه:

“أتيت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقلت: أبي شيخ لا قوة له في الحج أو العمرة أو القيام. الرحلة.” قال رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم- :أحج عن أبيك” [ أبو داود والترمذي]

The Conditions of Umrah Badal 

Before performing Umrah on behalf of others, several conditions must be met and fulfilled, for example:

 

Firstly, Previously Performed Umrah

The person wishing to perform the Umrah on behalf of others must have performed the Umrah on his own behalf first, 

and it makes no difference whether he performed it once before or several times,

or if he performed it on the same trip.

 

Secondly, The Person is Unable to Perform Umrah

That the performer on his behalf is incapacitated and agrees in the event that the person performing the Umrah on his behalf is alive, and it is not permissible to perform the Umrah on his behalf 

unless he suffers from a severe illness or a disability that prevents him from going out to perform the Umrah.

 

Moreover, The Acceptance 

It is required to obtain the person’s approval and his desire to perform the Umrah on his behalf, whether verbally or gesturing; If he is unable to speak. 

In addition, if the one performing the Umrah on his behalf is dead,

then there is no need for approval from him for the Umrah, even if he did not express his desire to perform the Umrah during his life.

 

Is It Permissible to Take Money to Perform Umrah on Behalf of Others?

Yes, It is permissible for the pilgrim to take a sum of money from the pilgrim performing the pilgrimage on behalf of him or his children – if he is dead. 

In addition, It is sufficient to meet the basic needs during travel and Umrah,

and it is not permissible for him to take more than that deliberately with it for trade and profit.

 

How to Perform Umrah Badal?

The Umrah is performed on behalf of others by performing all the rituals of Ihram and Umrah on behalf of oneself, but instead of announcing the intention to perform Umrah on behalf of oneself, 

the intention to perform Umrah is announced on behalf of the person performing Umrah on his behalf,

and Al Talbiyah is said by saying, “For You, O God, Umrah on behalf of (The person name),” and the intention is valid whether it was public or secret.

Performing Umrah on behalf of others or performing Umrah Badal is permissible in Islam, but not for trade or profit.
