What Is Ihram?
It is the intention to enter the Hajj or Umrah, and it is one of the pillars of Hajj and Umrah.
It was called ihram because the one who performs Umrah or Hajj is deprived of several things because of it, which are called (the prohibitions of Ihram).

The Rules of Ihram | Prohibitions
Prohibitions are Rules of Ihram that cannot be done, such like:
Immorality
Immorality is departing from obedience to Allah, and committing sins that are Haram in Islam.
Fragrance
It is forbidden to use perfumes, such as musk, oud, or saffron for both genders during the state of ihram.
Whether the pilgrim in Ihram uses it to perfume his clothes, slippers, or sandals, or he uses it to perfume his body all or part of it.
It also includes:
- The dyed dress smells good.
- Use scented eyeliner.
- Anointing hair or body with perfumes.
- Smelling perfumes or being in a place with perfumes.
Cutting Nails
It is not allowed to cut the nails, but if the nail is broken, it is okay to remove it.
Hair Removal
Head hair must not be shaved, or cut any part of it, nor body hair.
Sexual Behaviours
All sexual behavior (kissing, touching, or marital relations) is prohibited while in Ihram.
Hunting and Killing Animals
One of the most important rules of Ihram is not to kill or hunt animals for any reason, but in the following cases it is allowed:
- It threatens the life of the pilgrim.
- Harmful animals, such as lions, tigers, cheetahs, and others.
- The crow, the kite, the scorpion, the mouse, and the venomous dog.
- insects.
- Sea fishing.
- Slaughtering cows, camels, sheep, and every bird that does not fly in the air, such as chickens and ducks.
Cut Down Haram Trees And Grass
It is forbidden to cut down trees or grass in the Haram during the state of Ihram,
but if it was cut off from the trees, broken from the branches, or fell from the leaves of its own accord, in these cases it is permissible.
Men’s Prohibition
The prohibitions of ihram for men are:
- Wearing stitched clothes.
- Wearing closed shoes; Where men must wear sandals.
- Shirts, gowns, pants, and turbans are also not allowed.
Women’s Prohibition
Women should not do any of the following whiles in Ihram:
- Covering the face is like wearing a niqab.
- Wearing handcuffs or covering hands with any cloth.

It is the intention to perform Umrah or Hajj to please Allah, and the intention can be in the heart or it can be uttered.
Ihram clothing
It is a white and clean robe or loincloth without stitching for men.
As for women, they can enter Ihram in their normal clothes, while respecting the rules of chastity and decency.
Talbiyah
Talbiyah is the utterance of the phrase (Here I am, O Allah, Here I am) while Umrah or Hajj.
