What Is Ihram Clothing?

Women Ihram Clothing Rules

Ihram clothing for women is a loose, non-tight dress that covers the whole body, the following rules apply to it:

  • It can’t be colorful, preferable to be white or black
  • Must be free from decorations.
  • Hands and face must be not covered.
  • The shoes should cover the entire foot, In other words, women could wear socks and closed shoes.

Men Ihram Clothing Rules

For men, Ihram clothing consists of two pieces of white cloth only, following the following rules:

  • Izar, consists of a piece of cloth wrapped around the waist to cover the lower part of the body.
  • Rida, is the covering of the upper body parts.
  • Men should not wear underwear or stockings.
  • Buttons and hems are not allowed in your Ihram clothing.
  • Covering your head in any way is prohibited.
  • Only shoes that show the ankles and toes should be worn.

How To Wear The Ihram For Men

To wear the ihram clothing correctly, follow these steps:

Izar Wearing

Here is how to wear an Izar step by step:

  • Hold one of the white clothes horizontally in front of you, so that one top corner is in each hand.
  • Wrap the cloth around your waist above your navel, as if you would wear a towel after a shower.
  • Make sure your navel is fully covered, your feet are visible, and your body is completely covered.
  • Put the belt or pins to hold the izar in place to avoid it slipping, and secure it well.

Rida Wearing

Follow these steps to wear Rida correctly:

  • Hold the other piece of cloth horizontally behind your back, with one of the two upper corners in each hand.
  • Place the upper left corner under your right armpit, so that your left shoulder is covered.
  • Roll the other side of the fabric over your left shoulder so that your left shoulder is completely covered and the right shoulder is exposed.
  • If you’re worried about Rida slipping off your shoulder, you can tie the ends together or secure them with a pin.

 

How To Wear The Ihram For Women

For women, the Ihram dress is a typical Islamic dress, but it must follow these rules:

  • Women’s ihram clothing should be neat and clean.
  • Clothing can be any color as long as it covers the entire body except for the face and hands.
  • Women are allowed to wear closed socks and shoes when in Ihram.

  • Carry sunglasses and a hat to protect yourself from the sun’s heat.
  • Make sure the fabric of the clothing is light and breathable.
  • Best to pack three sets of clothes for women; Because it is likely to tear or get dirty.
  • Ensure that the clothes do not expose the body to sunshine and that the fabric is thick enough.
  • When a woman chooses to wear white, she must wear white underwear, white stockings, and a white veil (Hijab).
