While you are in the state of Ihram you Don’t Kill Animals; it is one of Ihram’s rules and prohibitions, that if you do kill an animal, you will come out of the state of Ihram.
Don’t Kill Animals While Ihram
It is not permissible for the person in ihram to hunt on land as long as he is in his state of ihram,
and neither he nor anyone else in the state of ihram is permitted to hunt in Haram,
On the other hand, it is permissible for the person in Ihram to fish by the sea.
What if the Animal is Predatory or Harmful?
A harmful animal such as a wolf or a dog that attacks you, or some harmful birds
such as a crow, an osprey, and the like, it is okay to kill them, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said:
“Five of the animals, all of them transgressors, are okay to be killed even during Ihram:
The crow, the kite, the scorpion, the mouse, and the venomous dog, in another narration: the snake, and in some of them: the ordinary wolf.”
النبي – عليه الصلاة والسلام” قال:
“خمس من الدواب كلهن فواسق يقتلن في الحل والحرم: الغراب والحدأة والعقرب والفأرة والكلب العقور،
في رواية: والحية وفي بعضها: والذئب العادي.”
Why Don’t Kill Animals While Ihram?
Muslim scholars unanimously agreed on the prohibition of hunting grounds for those who are in Ihram for Hajj or Umrah.
In addition, what was hunted in a state of ihram it is not permissible to eat for the person
in Ihram who hunted it, nor for someone else in ihram, nor for a lawful person who is not in Ihram, because it is dead meat, Including hunting or eating venison or antelope.
And that is what was mentioned in the Quran in its prohibition.
Evidence from the Qur’an
Here is some evidence from the Qur’an that you do not have to kill animals while in Ihram:
Allah says:
“ O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts. Lawful for you are the animals of grazing livestock except for that which is recited to you [in this Qur’an] – hunting not being permitted while you are in the state of Ihram. Indeed, Allah ordains what He intends.” [Al-Maaida:1]
قوله تعالى:
“يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَوْفُوا بِالْعُقُودِ أُحِلَّتْ لَكُمْ بَهِيمَةُ الْأَنْعَامِ إِلَّا مَا يُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ غَيْرَ مُحِلِّي الصَّيْدِ وَأَنْتُمْ حُرُمٌ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَحْكُمُ مَا يُرِيدُ” [المائدة: 1]
And Allah said:
“Lawful to you is the hunting from the sea and its food as provision for you and the travelers, but forbidden to you is hunting from the land as long as you are in the state of Ihram. And fear Allah to whom you will be gathered.” [Al-Maaida:96]
قوله تعالى:
“أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ صَيْدُ الْبَحْرِ وَطَعَامُهُ مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ وَلِلسَّيَّارَةِ وَحُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ صَيْدُ الْبَرِّ مَا دُمْتُمْ حُرُمًا وَاتَّقُواْ اللَّهَ الَّذِي إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ” [المائدة: 96]
The Wisdom Behind the Prohibition of Killing Animals during Ihram
You don’t kill animals during ihram to Preserve the sanctity of the Kaaba.
Some Islamic scholars said that the wisdom behind the prohibition of killing animals during ihram is that it involves hunting, killing, and bloodshed,
which is contrary to the etiquette of ihram, in which there is peace, mercy, tranquility, and non-harm.
Sea hunting does not need bloodshed or hunting, nor slaughter and skinning, unlike land hunting.
