Don’t Blow a Kiss to Hajar Aswad

According to Islamic scholars, it is desirable to kiss Hajar Aswad during Hajj and Umrah during Tawaf.

It is desirable for a Muslim to blow a kiss to Hajar Aswad while doing the obligatory or Sunnah circumambulation during Hajj and Umrah, if possible without crowding or hardship.

But with crowding and hardship, there is no problem if you do not kiss Hajar Aswad, and you can just point from afar and say, Allah Akbar.

Another case of why you should not kiss Hajar Aswad is if you think it has an additional good deed; As this is invalid and has no validity in Islam.

The Prophet (pbuh) said to Umar:

“O Abu Hafs, you are a strong man, so do not crowd over the Rukn, for you harm the weak,

but if you find solitude, then receive, otherwise say Takbeer and flash.” [Narrated by Al-Shafi’i in his Sunnah]

Why Blow a Kiss to Hajar Aswad?

Therefore, kissing Hajar Aswad becomes a Sunnah.

It is a blessed stone kissed by the Prophet (pbuh), and it was proven in Bukhari and Muslims that Umar ibn al-Khattab kissed it following the prophet (pbuh) swearing that it would not harm or benefit.

Al-Hakim narrated and correct it that the Prophet (pbuh) kissed Hajar Aswad and wept for a long time, and Umar saw him, so he wept when he cried, and said:

“Oh Umar, here we pour out tears.”

روى الحاكم وصححه أن النبي –صلى الله عليه وسلم– قبل الحجر الأسود وبكى طويلا، ورآه عمر فبكى لما بكى، وقال:

 “يا عمر هنا نسكب العبرات”

What is The Wisdom of Kissing Hajar Aswad?

The wisdom in kissing Hajar Aswad is to honor the rituals of Allah and not to venerate the stone.

Kissing Hajar Aswad or wiping over it degrades a person’s sins.

In addition, wiping on the Yemeni Rukn and Hajar Aswad erases human sins.

Anyway, all the previous matters of kissing, receiving, wiping Hajar Aswad, and also takbeer

is all of the Prophet’s (pbuh) Sunnah, But whoever finds it difficult, there is nothing wrong with leaving it.

What is the Difference Between Kissing Hajar Aswad and Worshiping Idols (Awthan)?

Idol worshipers worship idols and believe in them, unlike Muslims, who kiss Hajar Aswad in the worship of Allah and follow the Sunnah of the prophet Mohammed (pbuh).

In addition, It is proven that Umar ibn al-Khattab said when he kissed Hajar:

“I know that you are a stone that does not harm or benefit,

and if I had not seen the Prophet (pbuh) kiss you, I would not have kissed you.”

In conclusion,

Kissing Hajar Aswad is not worshiping it at all, for worship is for Allah alone,

just as circumambulating while Umrah or Hajj is not worshiping for Hajar Aswad, but for Allah alone.
