If you are going to perform Umrah, you must know that you have to Shave Your Head for Umrah after completing all the pillars of Umrah.

 

Do You Have to Shave Your Head for Umrah?

The pillars of Umrah are 4, and the fourth pillar is shortening or shaving the hair to get out of the state of Ihram.

In other words, you must cut or shave your hair as part of performing Umrah, 

It is one of the obligatory and final acts of Umrah which is known as “Tahallul”.

However, it is preferable for a man to shave his hair completely so that his head becomes bald.

While a woman can only cut the tip of her hair to get out of the state of Ihram.

But if the person is bald or had shaved his hair before entering the state of Ihram and the hair did not grow until he finished performing all the pillars of Umrah, 

In this case, it is desirable for the person to pass the razor over his head until he did not have any hair on him,

In addition, He does not have to do anything else to get out of the state of Ihram.

 

What is The Rule for Shaving The Head for Umrah? 

Cutting or Shaving the head is Wajib for Umrah, but for men, it is preferable to shave it, 

Thats for the prophet (pbuh) saying:

“O Allah, forgive those who shave their heads”

They said:

“And those who cut their hair short!”

The prophet (pbuh) said

“O Allah, forgive those who shave their heads” So again They said:

“And those who cut their hair short” 

The prophet (pbuh) said it a third time and said:

“And those who cut the hair short.” [Bukhari]

How Much to Cut From My Hair to Exit The State of Ihram?

Firstly, a man has to shave all the hair on his head

 

Secondly, a woman has to shorten her hair by about 2 cm, 

people of knowledge differed as to the amount of hair that is cut to exit from the state of Ihram, 

but according to the Maliki and Hanbali schools of thought, if she has braids, she is taken from all of their ends, 

otherwise, she collects her hair and takes from all of it, 

and it is recommended that she cut approximately 2 centimeters from it, and she may shorten it to Less than that; Because Islamic law did not specify it.

 

How to Shave Your Head for Umrah? 

Here are the ways to shave or cut your hair for Umrah: 

Firstly, By Yourself

You can shave or cut your hair yourself, but in this case, make sure that you take the shaving tool with you, 

and that you do not exchange any personal use tools with strangers,

Moreover, you can get a travel companion to shave or cut your hair.

 

Secondly, Barber Shop

You can go to one of the barbers around Haram and shave,

In this case, you should pay attention to several things, for example:

  • Unlicensed roadside barbers usually charge up to 3 $ (10 SAR).
  • It is not recommended that you shave your hair at unlicensed barbers; due to health risks;

They often use unsterilized razors on multiple people, which can spread diseases and viruses for example hepatitis and HIV.

  • Licensed barbers charge approximately 8 $( 30 SAR) for cutting hair, and they use disposable blades only; Each pilgrim has a new blade and razor.
  • Make sure the razor used to shave or cut your hair is new, and that the area is clean and sterile.

 

In conclusion, 

Shaving the hair and shortening the hair are both available for the man to get out of the state of Ihram after performing Umrah,

While a woman does not have to shave it and it is enough to shorten her hair.
